There's no telling what effects unfettered internet can have on a child. From cyberbullying to inappropriate sexual content, there are plenty of things on the internet that children are not equipped to deal with and can be harmful to them - but there are tools to help.

The Big Sister app is set to revolutionise child safety on the internet. This new 'digital guardian' allows parents to monitor their children's safety on the internet without making them feel smothered or violating any boundaries.

Powered by AI, Big Sister is trained to look out for specific threats and will send alerts to your phone once a threat has been detected.

Set to be launched early next year, the Big Sister waitlist is live now and ready for parents to join, and those on the waiting list will receive an 80% discount on their subscription and be entered into a prize draw for a Fortnum and Mason hamper worth £70.

What is Big Sister?

Big Sister is a digital guardian and non-invasive app designed to look out for your child's safety while they use the internet.

The balance of privacy and safety means that your child can still enjoy using the internet without the feeling of being watched over while remaining safe.

Big Sister is powered by AI to look out for any elements of a danger list, coded with safety advice from the police and NSPCC. This list works to prevent risks like grooming, bullying and radicalisation.

The platform was launched in 2024 by Anne Mundy, a parent and former cyber security worker who is filling the gap in children's online safety.

How does Big Sister work?

With Big Sister child safety and privacy go hand-in-hand.

The app uses AI to identify any threats that have been featured on a Danger List, informed by expert advice sourced from the police, NSPCC and CEOP. When something from the Danger List appears in your child's internet usage, you will immediately be notified.

For instance, if you have given your child a smartphone and they use it to access a site that has been placed on the Danger List, you will receive an email flag so you can help keep your child safe.

Parents can also log in to their Big Sister dashboard to view flags, as well as take note of other patterns and trends and gain general insight about device usage and location. You can even add multiple devices to each child's profile and have shared devices.
