Newborn pram/pushchair under £800

Key features we tested/judged — Ease of use, worth the money, quality and design, folding/unfolding: ease and size, ease of pushing & steering, usefulness/quality of features, ease & lightness of carrying, comfort for baby/child.

Joint Gold – Silver Cross Tide, £795

Silver Cross Tide

Comprising: Silver Cross Tide pushchair, overnight carrycot.

Why it’s a winner: This versatile pushchair has the potential to last from birth right up to the point where your little one wants to walk everywhere themselves. With all the quality you'd expect from this heritage brand, it also has a pretty competitive pricetag. Offering the stroller dream of being both stylish and sturdy, it is simple to switch between the pram and pushchair modes and feels impressively light to push. The newborn carrycot comes with a bamboo soft-touch lined mattress and is approved for overnight sleeping, which is a big plus point as it can double up as a travel cot or bassinet. Parent tester Emily also loved the roomy basket and said "the way the pram folds with the seat unit makes it ideal for smaller car boots".

In the words of parent tester India, who tested this with their 11 week old: "The adjustable handlebar is a great bonus for me and my husband, with our eight-inch height difference. The light frame is easy to pick up and carry when folded. The large back wheels make it easy to manoeuvre over rough ground and it’s easy to push one-handed on flat ground."

Joint Gold – Cybex Balios S Lux, £499.95 (£769.90 with carrycot)

MFMA_cybex Balios S Lux_Gold

Comprising: Chassis and seat, optional carrycot sold separately

Why it’s a winner: With soft and durable fabrics, an easy-set up and smooth-running features, our judges felt the Balios S Lux had the premium feel of a much more expensive pushchair. Although you can use the separate carrycot, one big plus point with the pushchair is that its seat unit can also be safely used from birth in its lie-flat position. The seat is large and comfortable and you can fold it with one hand with the seat still attached. It will then stand up by itself when folded which makes storage easier. Our judges and testers liked the fact it could be easily pushed with one hand, with one mum describing it as a "joy to push".

In the words of parent tester Katie, who tested this with their 2 month old: "This is a sturdy pushchair made from good quality materials. It runs smoothly on different terrains, and is adaptable and versatile for families. The design is parent-friendly, especially features such as the varying height handlebars, one-pull harness and easily accessible basket."
