MFM Awards 2020 Winners - Prams, pushchairs, lightweights and double buggies
MadeForMums reveals 2020's award-winning pushchairs, prams, lightweight, compact and double buggies
Tackling terrains from countryside to city, including pavements, kerbs, cobbles, grass, and even the beach, our testers didn’t hold back when it came to putting our pushchair entries through their paces. We tested each buggy with both newborn babies and toddlers, to give an idea of how the buggy performed at each stage of its lifespan. Our parent judges took them for a spin in their nearby towns and cities, used them in and out of the car, on public transport, stored at home and took them around local shops and attractions.
Some pushchair categories required more specific judging criteria than others but, with every entry, we were looking for overall quality, ease of use, and – critically for such a core parenting buy – value for money (whatever the price tag).
We wanted to know everything, from how easily the pushchair folded to how easy the harness was to use, whether the hood provided ample shade, whether the basket was accessible with the seat upright and reclined – and more. Because, as parents, we know that when you’re using a product everyday, the little details really matter.
For newborn buggies, we paid particular attention to the carrycot, noting whether it could be used for occasional daytime sleeping, how easy it was to fit, and how comfortable and spacious it was for your baby. We also considered how comfortable it would be to push for a new mum recovering from birth, or later on, pushing a heavy toddler?
For travel systems, we asked our parents to test them out in every scenario – out and about with the seat, with the carrycot and with the car seat. We wanted to know not just how well it functioned as a pushchair, but how effective it was a travel system – was the car seat easy to fit and remove from the chassis, for example, and how did it feel for a newborn baby?
Newborn pram/pushchair under £700
Key features we tested/judged – suitability from birth, adaptability, weight, ease of use, manoeuvrability, fold, value for money, design, quality, extra features
GOLD – ABC DESIGN SALSA 4 AIR, £699.90
Stunning to look at, quality is great – a long lasting pushchair that could be kept for future babies
Why it’s a winner: The ABC Design Salsa 4 Air is a competitively priced all rounder that seriously impressed our judges. Standing toe-to-toe with more well-known (and often pricier) brands, our judges found this pushchair very simple to use; especially changing from the carrycot to the seat unit. Lookwise, the finish is good quality and the design pleasing to the eye. Judges loved the large basket and protective hood, and found the excellent suspension made it a dream to push. They also liked the long lifespan (birth to 22kg) and thought the fact the spacious carrycot – suitable for overnight sleeping – is included makes it good value for money.
Tester Kayleigh, adds: “It really is a quality pram for the price and is head and shoulders above other similarly-priced prams on the market in terms of design, quality and value for money. My little one is more than happy to sleep in the carrycot in the house in the day thanks to the super-comfortable foam mattress.”
Available to buy from Pramworld, Direct4baby and hello baby direct
SILVER – BABYZEN YOYO+ 0+, £579
Why it’s a winner: With the newborn pack – a lie-flat, parent-facing, 5-point harness cocoon – the Babyzen YoYo+ is suitable from birth, and the original lightweight, travel-friendly companion. Our home testers loved how easy it is to manoeuvre and push singlehanded, but it's the simple one-hand fold that really won them over, along with the fact it folds up small enough to be carried over your shoulder. One of our testers described it as looking like you have “a bag on your shoulder”. Another tester and her husband nicknamed the Babyzen YoYo their “sportscar” – because it’s so light and quick. It also picked up points for feeling very well-made, with soft fabrics and style.
Tester Alex, mum of 2, says: “It ticks all the boxes for what this pushchair claims to be. It is the most lightweight pushchair I have come across, perfect for on buses, trains and any other transport with short storage space. You really have no worries about where this pushchair can fit once folded”

BRONZE – BABY JOGGER CITY MINI GT2, £429
Why it’s a winner: Judges were really impressed with this well-priced option from Baby Jogger. It wasn't as light to push as some entries, but the strong, well-made frame felt reassuringly sturdy and we'd expect this to wear well. Testers found the carrycot was a good size, and very easy to fit or remove, and were impressed that it's also suitable for occasional overnight sleeping. The large “forever air” tyres and all wheel suspension performed well on all types of terrain, and our judges appreciated the compact, one-handed fold.
Jade, mum of 1, says: “Exceptionally easy to steer whilst feeling sturdy as well. My little boy loved being in the buggy, he was smiling away which made me feel so happy that I could get fit whilst he’s happy too!”

Key features we tested/judged – suitability from birth, adaptability, weight, ease of use, manoeuvrability, fold, price, design, quality, extra features
GOLD – BUGABOO FOX, £979 - £1149
So many user-friendly features, high quality and very comfortable for my baby. So versatile
Why it’s a winner: The Bugaboo Fox ticks so many boxes it’s hard to know where to start! At just 9.9kg and with a large wheel base, we found its weight and size worked really well for both city and countryside. It gained a big tick across the board for being really nimble to push, and judges were impressed by how easy it is to fold. The fact it folds with the seat attached into a compact and free-standing package, means it's extra-easy to store in a car boot or at home. We also loved the way the spacious bassinet converts into a toddler seat that can lay flat – an ingenious concept saving on production and waste. It’s suitable from birth to 22kg so will last your child a good few years.
Tester Emma, mum of 3, says: “As far as pushchairs go, this is a great choice. The pushchair is a breeze to steer - even with one hand. It has a great size bassinet that will easily last my little boy until he is able to sit up. The storage basket is a great size and can easily fit a few bags of shopping. The pushchair easily folds up and fits into my hatchback.”

SILVER – CYBEX PRIAM, £829.90
Why it’s a winner: Beyond it’s swish good looks, we found the Cybex Priam to be a very well designed, multifunctional pushchair that our testers quickly grew to love. The sizeable back wheels tackled all terrains with ease, and the 2-wheel mode could even move the pushchair over sand! As well as being able to fold with the seat attached (great timesaver), our home testers also really rated the protective extendable sun canopy, long lifespan (birth to around 4 years) and robust frame. We also think the range of finishes available are tasteful yet allow this pram to stand out in a crowd. Rose gold anyone?!
Tester Freire, mum of 1, says: “The excellent manufacturing sets The Cybex Priam apart. And it does what it says very well. Cleverly folds down as one unit without having to remove seat. Works on a number of terrains due to the larger back wheels. The memory buttons, extendable handle and harness buckle complete its functional excellence.”

BRONZE – MAMAS & PAPAS OCARRO, £749 - £899
Why it’s a winner: Our judges were seriously impressed by how well the Mamas & Papas Ocarro handles rough terrain. Over potholes, hills and muddy pathways, the dual suspension really kicked in – ensuring a very smooth ride. For such a tough pushchair, the exterior, in contrast, is very smart; plush seat linings, deep padding and head cushion make us envy the little one who gets to enjoy this ride. At around 13.5kg it wasn't the lightest entry, but testers found the one-handed fold system to be very helpful.
Sarah, mum of 1, says: “The Mamas & Papas Ocarro is beautifully finished with a quilted lining and a wonderfully soft, ergonomic and easily-adjusted leather handle. The build quality also appears to be of a very high and robust nature. It looks amazing and rides brilliantly.”

Key features we tested/judged: quality and features of buggy, car seat and accessories, ease of use (including switching between car seat and carrycot), push, fold, weight, style, worth the money
GOLD - JOIE VERSATRAX TRAVEL SYSTEM, £490
A fantastic value travel system that doesn't compromise on the car seat - the i-Snug car seat is both i-Size and super light
Comprising: Joie Versatrax pushchair, i-Snug i-Size car seat, Ramble xl carrycot
Why it’s a winner: Excellent value for money given the quality of the package, the Joie Versatrax punches high with functionality that compares well with many more expensive brands. As suggested by its name, this is a versatile buggy that can handle a range of terrains. But it’s not just rugged and robust - the lightness of the spacious Ramble xl carrycot (3.2g) and the iSnug car seat (3.25kg) were much admired by our testers, making it easier to carry around with the baby inside. The Versatrax also scores well on storage. “The basket on the Versatrax is huge and so useful,” commented tester Sarah, mum of 2, while other testers liked the fact that it was easy to access even with the carrycot in place.
Tester Georgina, mum of 2, says, “The Versatrax is somewhere between an off-roader and a compact run-around-town and works well in all situations, whether walking around town, in the park or in the woods.”
- Buy now from Kiddies Kingdom (£499)
SILVER - CBX LEOTIE LUX TRAVEL SYSTEM, £489.95
Comprising: Leotie Lux pushchair, carrycot, CBX Aton car seat
Why it’s a winner: A great-value package from the sister brand of the well-known Cybex company. Our testers found the Leotie Lux pushchair light to push with good suspension and easy to handle up and down kerbs. The one-handed buggy fold proved very popular – with one tester describing folding and unfolding as “a breeze”, and the carrycot is well padded and even fitted one tester’s 9-month-old baby. The Aton car seat is easy to fit on and off the pushchair adaptors while the leather details on the handle and bumper bar provide a quality feel at an affordable price.
Tester Elizabeth, mum of 1, says, “The CBX Leotie is a very good-looking pram; it’s well made, the chassis seems robust, while the leather handle bar in particular is really luxurious. The inner lining of the carrycot is nice and padded – my 12-week-old baby certainly seems comfortable in there.”
BRONZE – THE RED KITE CO. PUSH ME SAVANNA TRAVEL SYSTEM, £199
Comprising: Push Me Savanna pushchair, carrycot (converts into seat), Red Kite car seat
Why it’s a winner: If you’re on a really tight budget for your pushchair and car seat, Red Kit’s Push Me Savanna is a worthy choice. Indeed, our home testers were amazed that an infant 0+ car seat was included in the £199 price – “I had no idea you could get a whole travel system at such a low price point,” commented tester Annabelle, mum of 1. The buggy was very impressive, with testers admiring the smooth push, sturdy feel and ease of folding. We also liked the fact that the carrycot can be converted into the buggy seat once your baby is old enough – so you don’t have a carrycot taking up storage space after 6 months. Not surprisingly, the car seat is basic and can only be fitted with a seat belt, but overall this is a great low-cost package.
Tester Michelle, mum of 4, says, “I really like the pram. It’s so easy to use and very nice to push, with a decent size carrycot and a big basket. The seat, though small for bigger toddlers, is parent and world facing and very easy to change round.”

Beautifully designed and so many clever features
Comprising: Cybex Priam, LUX carrycot or Lite cocoon cot, and Cloud Z i-Size car seat
Why it’s a winner: The combination of the premium Priam with the award-winning Cloud Z car seat makes this Cybex travel system a best-in-class package. But it’s the special features that really delight. Our testers loved the memory buttons that make it easier to click the carrycot and car seat on and off, and the fact the Priam feels equally at ease on rough terrain as smooth pavements. Topping it off, they praised the i-Size Cloud Z car seat, winner of a MadeForMums 2020 Triple Tested Best Buy Award, which can be used in a near lie-flat position on the pushchair – so you can safely transport your baby in a travel system for longer periods of time.
Tester Freire, mum of 1, says: “This pushchair is a joy to use. The one-hand click of the memory buttons is a highlight, meaning you can easily swap between the different seating options, as you can unclick one side and then the other and lift the carrycot off with one hand.”

JOINT SILVER - BUGABOO FOX & TURTLE TRAVEL SYSTEM, £1,327
Comprising: Bugaboo Fox, Bugaboo Turtle by Nuna i-Size car seat, Turtle by Nuna ISOFIX base
Why it’s a winner: Stylish engineering is the signature of the Bugaboo Fox travel system – this is Bugaboo listening to parents’ needs and serving up a beautifully-made solution for city and rural life. Our testers loved the suspension, the roomy basket and one found it “a breeze to steer” – plus the big canopy was a big hit. The first Bugaboo-branded car seat, the Turtle, was an impressive launch in 2019 and won a MadeForMums 2020 Triple Tested Best Buy Award, so it’s great to see it packaged here with the Fox to create the first all-Bugaboo travel system.
Tester Francesca, mum of 1, says: “The Fox is so easy to move around that I could push the buggy with just one finger even with my baby in there. And while being lightweight is great for the city, the good suspension and sturdiness is good for more challenging terrain.”

Fabrics and materials on the pushchair and carrycot are top quality, and there’s the trademark Silver Cross attention to detail. “With its soft bamboo lining and quilted padding, my 7-week-old son feels snug and secure inside,” says mum tester Georgie, who took the pram out in stormy weather and felt it was strong and sturdy throughout.
Tester Kimberley, mum of 2, says: “It’s comfortable and safe for a newborn but also very spacious for a toddler. I have a 3 year old and she still has plenty of space for comfort.”

Comprising: Aston Rose pushchair, carrycot, Mercury i-Size car seat, ISOFIX base, car seat adaptors, changing bag, changing mat, luxury seat liner, footmuff, cup holder, rain cover

Compact-fold pushchair
Key features we tested/judged – ease of use, ease of fold, size when folded, value for money, effectiveness and quality of design, extra features, durability
GOLD – ICANDY LIME, £750
The perfect compact, lightweight pushchair. Had I designed a pushchair I don't think I could have made a product as good as this
Why it’s a winner: The clever folks at iCandy have ticked a lot of boxes with this pushchair whilst still maintaining the high quality we expect from the brand. A first from iCandy is the fold system – allowing the pushchair to be folded with the seat and bumper bar still attached, a feature our judges really liked.
Beyond the easy fold, out testers also liked the fact that the included bassinet can be used for permanent overnight sleeping, and noted the large basket features an integrated buggy board as well the new Lime includes a matching bag and a new liner/footmuff called DuoPod. Another standout feature was the weight limit – the pushchair can be used from birth to 25kg ensuring plenty of use from one child to the next.
Tester Dominic, dad of 1, says: “I don't have anything but compliments here. The iCandy Lime really does look and feel like a high-quality product. I loved its design and it just seemed to be firm but sleek at the same time. The buggy folded very neatly into a standalone unit that could be tucked away relatively comfortably (due to its 'TotalFold' tech).”

JOINT SILVER – BUGABOO ANT, £429 - £519
Why it’s a winner: Described by one of our judges as folding up “as small as a shopping bag”, the Bugaboo Ant really impressed with just how little its compact fold is. It measures just 55cm x 38cm x 23cm when folded, and is “lovely to push” despite its size.
Clearly designed with globetrotting in mind, our panel felt the pull-along travel mode would really make moving through busy airports and train stations a breeze, and felt the basket was a “decent size for a compact”.
Judges also noted how well the compact fold would work in busy commuter situations and also where space is limited at home or in the car. An eye-catching design that has set the bar very high.
Tester Rebecca, mum of 3, says: “I am absolutely gobsmacked at how handy The Ant is. I’ve never seen a pram fold down so small and so easily. The pram feels exceptionally well made and the different height, recline and facing options are marvellously handy. The thing I’m most impressed with is how Bugaboo have designed a pram that folds down to something so small without losing any functionality or style. It’s a thing of beauty.”

JOINT BRONZE – BABY JOGGER CITY TOUR 2, £249
Why it’s a winner: At a lightweight 6.5kg, the Baby Jogger City Tour 2 impressed us with its strong yet compact form. Our judges noted how much easier this pushchair made public transport travel and how the quick one-handed fold impressed even passers-by. The panel also felt it was sturdy and a great size for everyday, not just as a travel option.
The included carrycase was found to be incredibly handy too. With a narrower frame ideal for cities, this pushchair cleverly delivers compact without compromising on practicality.
Tester Jason, dad of 1, says: “Great compact pram. Really liked the ease of use, incredibly easy to put up and down and folds down very small so great for saving space in the car. The add ons are a massive plus and mean you can use it from newborn to 3 or 4 years old. Very light and felt incredibly solid when up.”
JOINT BRONZE – INFABABY EZEEGO STROLLER, £149.90
Why it’s a winner: Budget conscious shoppers will appreciate this affordable, compact and light (6kgs) pushchair – our judges found it wasn’t the lightest-feeling buggy to push in the category, but still gave a smooth ride and “good value”.
As well as folding small, it comes with a travel bag and shoulder strap making it ideal, we felt, for vacations. Our taller judges would have liked to see an adjustable handle, but overall it manoeuvred particularly well and took an impressive number of different terrains in its stride.
Tester Annabelle, mum of 1, says: “The mechanisms of the stroller are great and it is seamless to put up and down. The Infababy also feels very sturdy to push which is great for a product that folds so neatly. This stroller is very smooth to push, even over grass and bumpy footpaths. It is also really easy to get your baby in and out of.”

JOINT GOLD – JOIE TOURIST, £150
Slim, stylish and ideal for families who are on the go and love to travel
Why it’s a winner: The fold on the Joie Tourist is quick and easy and really impressed our judges; it’s one-handed too! This great-value stroller is also very nippy and slim, making it perfect not just for travel but commutes and fitting into smaller spaces. We thought it was very well-priced, especially given it includes a carry bag and is lightweight enough (just 6kg) to carry on your shoulder. Bonus points too for the fact the seat can be used from birth, and can also be used with the Ramble carrycot. Unusually for a lightweight, it also comes with adapters to fit attach a carseat (sold separately).
Tester Charli, mum of 2, says: “This was lovely. We really liked how easy it was to set up and the super simple fold down (one handed!) to include a great carry bag was just fantastic. It’s really ergonomically designed so you don’t have to spend ages figuring out what does what, chances are it’s the first thing you try. Loved it!”

Haven’t found an easier pram. I went on the train, took it in and out of the car and on different road surfaces - it was great
Why it’s a winner: Babyzen are pioneers of the overhead compartment sized stroller and they have consistently led this category as one of the most sought after lightweight strollers. It handles every situation thrown at it; on the train, in and out of the car and different road surfaces – all with ease.
Tester Hollie, mum of 1, says: “I really love this buggy. It’s such a clever design, easy to use and well worth the money for parents looking to save space. I drive a Mini so was particularly impressed with how little room in my car’s small boot it takes up! I was also really impressed by how sturdy it felt and how my tall toddler fitted in to it easily.”

It also made it a more comfortable ride for little ones. Our judges noted how convenient the one-handed, extremely compact fold is – suitable for overhead storage with most airlines and easier on sore backs used to heavier travel systems.
Tester Emma, mum of 2, says: “I never thought I would love it as much as I do. It fits into our busy lifestyle and has saved my back compared to my usual pram. GOLD – BABY JOGGER CITY TOUR DOUBLE 2, £449
Affordable lightweight buggy perfect for twins or a toddler and baby
Why it’s a winner: It’s the features of the Baby Jogger pushchair that make this side-by-side double buggy a gold winner. SILVER – KIDS KARGO DUEL DS, £325
Why it’s a winner: A great value option, the Kids Kargo Duel DS is easy to convert from a single to a double buggy for a baby and toddler. Our testers liked the different seat combinations on offer, and most importantly found that both toddler and baby were comfortable. “The space between the toddler seat and newborn carrycot is quite large, making the toddler feel comfortable and happy that they can see,” says home tester Neve, mum of 3. And even as a budget buy, there are some clever touches including mudguards to stop little toddler fingers getting caught in the wheels.
Tester Nicola mum of 2, says, “I found that the Kids Kargo coped well on most surfaces even on uneven ground. The adjustable handlebar was a useful feature and provided a comfortable pushing height for both my tall partner and me. GOLD – BABY UMA PREMIUM LEATHER STYLE BUGGY CLIPS BY BABY UMA (2 PACK), £8.99
Feels really strong and the clip moves easily but remains firmly closed when released
Why it’s a winner: We loved these useful clips, which Baby Uma designed with tan faux leather details in response to parent feedback. They match leather trimmed handlebars nicely but we think they'd look good with any type of trim. Testers found these were wellmade, proving to be both quick to put on and ultra sturdy, managing to hold 5kg of weight easily. They can be easily opened with one hand via a spring loaded gate – our judges found them faultless.
Tester Lily, mum of 1, says: “The clips are really easy to put on. They are Velcro so should fit around most prams. I really like the fact it’s Velcro and leather so the material hasn’t marked my pram. You also get 2 in the pack, win win!”
SILVER – LASCAL BUGGYBOARD, from £49.99
Why it’s a winner: The buggyboard of choice for many families, judges felt this offered an adaptable and good quality solution for an additional child – ideal for those who don’t want a double buggy. We liked the fact it fits an impressive 99% of buggies, and testers really rated the design, finding it durable, spacious and easy to attach.
Tester Katie, mum of 2, says: “For us, this was far easier, cheaper and more compact than a double buggy. We love our single buggy and it was still in great condition when baby number 2 came along. Our son thinks of it as a fun toy, his "step", and he loves getting to watch and play with his little sister as we walk along”
