These tasty mini turkey balls make a brilliantly festive finger food for your weaning baby. They'll also be gobbled up by older children and we think they'd make rather stylish Christmas canapés for a Christmas party.

You can cook the balls in the oven or fry them on the hob.

  • 1 sweet potato
    (roughly 150-200g)
  • 75g parsnip
  • 1 onion
    chopped
  • 200g minced turkey thigh
  • 30g fresh spinach
  • 20g grated cheddar cheese
  • 1tsp fresh thyme
    chopped
  • 30g Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2tsp sunflower oil

    Method

    • step 1

Prick the sweet potato and cook in a microwave for 10 minutes until soft. Leave to cool. Scoop out the potato. Grate the parsnip

    • step 2

Put the sweet potato flesh, the grated parsnip and all the ingredients, except the sunflower oil, into a food processor. Whizz until finely chopped. Season (for babies over 1 year) and shape into 25 balls

    • step 3

Heat the sunflower oil in a frying pan. Fry the turkey balls for 8 to 10 minutes, turning them, until golden and cooked through

    • step 4

Alternatively, heat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4/Fan 160°C, drizzle the oil on a baking sheet, and cook the balls for about 15 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time, until cooked through
