49-year-old actress Laura Linney gives birth secretly
Pregnancy was kept a complete secret from the media
Hollywood actress Laura Linney has managed to keep her entire pregnancy a secret from the paparazzi and the world’s media.
A representative for the actress confirmed that Laura gave birth to a son last week. “Mother and baby are happy and healthy’” said a short statement.
Laura, who is best known for her appearances in The Truman Show, Love Actually (as shy Sarah) and Mystic River, is just a few weeks shy of her 50th birthday.
This is the first baby for Laura and her real estate agent husband Marc Schauer. The couple, who married in May 2009, have kept one Hollywood tradition - giving their son a combination of interesting names - Bennett Armistead Schauer.
Armistead is no doubt linked to Armistead Maupin, author of the Tales of the City series. The books were turned into a very successful TV miniseries, in which a young Laura Linney starred.
Laura isn’t the first celebrity to try to hide her pregnancy from the public, but she’s been the most successful in recent years. Adele kept her bump quiet until she was about 6 months pregnant, while Jessica Simpson managed to keep mum for about 4 months.
Laura has cannily kept away from the cameras. When she won an Emmy for best actress on the US TV series, The Big C, she didn’t turn up, and Matt Damon collected the award on her behalf.
She also was involved in promoting the film The Fifth Element just last September, but did interviews over the phone rather than in person, and breezily admitted she was “taking a little time off”.
The one awards she did show up to was the Women in Film’s 2013 Crystal and Lucy Awards in June (as pictured), when she would have been in the first few weeks of pregnancy. She wore a loose fitting A-line pinafore style dress, although in those early stages there would have been little bump to hide.
