Cilla Black and Kym Marsh: premature baby heartaches
Long-term sadness for both Blind Date host and Coronation Street star
Cilla Black, 66, and Kym Marsh, 33, have both revealed the heartache that has stayed with them after losing their premature babies. Cilla lost a baby girl back in 1975 when she gave birth at 27 weeks and Kym's son died ealier this year after being born 18 weeks early.
Revealing her loss in a tearful interview with Piers Morgan on his show, Life Stories, Cilla shared her ordeal of losing baby Ellen, showing that 34 years later, her pain is still raw.
At the time, all though she had two much-loved sons Robert, then 5, and Ben, 1, Cilla had always longed for a daughter. After her baby died two hours after being born, Cilla admitted being wracked with guilt, thinking she may have worked too hard during her pregnancy.
After suffering stomach pains whilst at the cinema with her late husband, Bobby Willis, she put it down to indigestion. She ended up in hospital, going into early labour.
"All I can really remember is I could hear in the next room two women talking about their babies and I had none. It was awful, awful. I wonder what Ellen would have been like, all of the time," she said on the show, wiping away tears.
Coronation Street star Kym Marsh also knows how the heartache of losing an unborn baby can have long-lasting effects. After giving birth to baby son, Archie, 18 weeks prematurely in February, she has split with her partner, Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, citing the trauma of the loss of their son as the main cause.
The couple are said to have 'drifted apart' following the death of their son and simply couldn't cope with the tragedy, especially as it happened so early on in their relationship. "Any couple would have struggled to come to terms with losing a baby but I think it hit them particularly hard," a Corrie source told the Metro.
Mum to son David, 13, and Emily, 10, Kym recently spoke out about her and Jamie's loss prior to the split after returning to the soap as her role as barmaid Michelle. "It's been a long struggle but we've had support from our family and friends. Everybody at work has been great." Sadly it wasn't enough to keep the couple together.
