Approximately three and a half hours.

The average visit to The Making of Harry Potter lasts three and a half hours, however, there is no time limit on your day at the studio.

If you have a little one who is particularly interested in one of the sets, costumes, or props (we're particularly intrigued by the Potions Classroom, which has over 950 potion jars lining the walls of the classroom), they won't be rushed during their time at Harry Potter studios.

As flying broomsticks are out of the question, we'd recommend travelling by train.

Not only is the journey more environmentally friendly than travelling by car (especially as the shuttle buses from the train station are carbon-free), but you avoid any potential traffic queues, too.

The Harry Potter Studio Tour’s nearest railway station is Watford Junction, and direct services arrive there from both London Euston (which is a 20-minute journey) and Birmingham New Street (which will take one hour).

As part of your entry ticket, you'll get a shuttle bus from Watford Junction to the Studio Tour entrance, and you'll be there faster than we can say 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus' as the ride only takes 15 minutes.

If you're driving to Harry Potter Studios, parking is provided free of charge directing outside the Studio Tour. There are also multiple disability badge parking bays available close to the main entrance.

Harry Potter Studio and London transfer package

What's the deal: If you and your family are travelling from outside of London into the Big Smoke, you'll know that the cost of train tickets can soon add up, particularly if you're coming to the capital city at a peak time like a weekend. So it makes sense to bundle up your Harry Potter Studio ticket with a London transfer.

Why we chose it: While it would be dreamy to rely on the Hogwarts Express to get us to where we need to go — a line from our home to the children's school would be ideal! — it's not practical, unfortunately. Various UK companies such as Headout and Hellotickets offer family packages which include travel in and out of London. Let's check out all of the options!

Get Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio tickets and a day trip to Oxford

What's the deal: If your children are interested in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in particular, a trip to Oxford to explore academia-meets-wizardry could be exactly what they want! This package from Headout will include a Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio ticket as well as some of the most magical sites in Oxford.

Why we chose it: In this package, you'll begin the day exploring the cobblestone streets of Oxford, then you'll head to the Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Camera before hopping on a coach to Harry Potter Studio Tour. It's certainly going to be a day to remember for the whole family!

Enjoy a Harry Potter Studios expert-guided group tour

What's the deal: This guided group tour allows you to get up close and personal with the Wizarding World as you visit the Great Hall, Hagrid's Hut, the Forbidden Forest, and more, all with an English-speaking guide. The tour also includes round-trip transfers to Warner Bros. Studio by train from Central London.

Why we chose it: A guided tour is a brilliant way to find out more interesting details about the world of Harry Potter. The Harry Potter Studio tour is home to plenty of fun facts and anecdotes, for example, did you know Ollivanders wand shop, where Harry’s wand famously chose him, was home to more than 17,000 individually labelled wand boxes during filming?
