Finally, something that might help combat the family’s post-Olympic inertia. Channel 4 have announced that the centerpiece of their Christmas schedule this year will be a new Snowman film. Not only that, but it will also feature a new character – Snowdog, who has mismatched socks for ears and a Satsuma nose.

There will also be a new little boy in the film, called The Snowman and The Snowdog, which is set in the present day and features the trio flying over the London Eye, rather than Brighton Pier. There will also be a new theme tune to replace Walking in the Air.

Channel 4 first broadcast the film, that has no words, 30 years ago and has shown it every Christmas since. The original film was written by children’s author Raymond Briggs, who didn’t write the sequel but was quoted in the Telegraph as saying, “I’m not grumpy at all about it”.

The film is part of Channel 4’s 30th anniversary celebrations. Puffin Books has said it will release an e-book of The Snowman and The Snowdog.
