Teacher's bread experiment shows kids why they should ALWAYS wash their hands
Because if they don't, the results are pretty gross...
It’s a tale as old as time itself: We tell our kids to wash their hands after nipping to the loo. But they don’t.
We reiterate approximately one million times the true importance of washing said hands.
We describe bugs and germs to get it through their heads that they just. need. to. wash. their. hands. But then, they still don’t remember to wash ‘em.
? ? ?
Enter this brilliant teacher Courtney Lee Simpson and her pretty grim (not gonna lie) experiment to teach little ones the importance of keeping those hands clean and germ-free.
She’s managed to physically show what invisible nasties unwashed hands can carry – using just 3 slices of plain white bread. We’ll let her explain how she did it.
From Courtney's Facebook page:
“To all my teacher friends - this is the grossest yet coolest experiment. I did this while teaching about germs and how they spread.
"You use 3 pieces of bread. You let all the kids see you put a piece of bread in a baggy with a glove on hence ‘controlled’, then you wash your hands and put a piece of bread in a baggy for ‘clean’.
“Last but definitely not least you pass a piece of bread around and let every kid in the class touch it then you put it in a baggy and label it ‘dirty’.
"Watch how the bread changes over time due to germs. It is so cool and a great way to teach the importance of hand-washing.”
Naturally, this method’s proven to be very popular with parents everywhere, and it’s been shared over 70,000 times. Incredible!
What a smart, straight-to-the-point way of proving how vital a good hand wash is. We bet every kid in that class went home and scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed…
Will you be giving this a try at home?
Let us know if you decide to try this method at home. (One commenter suggested making sure you use a preservative-free bread to ensure the mould can actually grow ?)
Perhaps you’ve got another trick for ensuring your child remembers to wash their hands when you’re not around to make sure they’re doing it? Share your thoughts and ideas on Facebook!
