New mum Carey Mulligan has admitted that going on a worldwide promotion tour for her film Suffragette with her newborn in tow has been "pretty stressful". Well, we're not surprised! She only gave birth to her first child – a daughter named Evelyn Grace – with husband Marcus Mumford five weeks ago.

But while on the gruelling promotion tour giving countless interviews to press while nursing her baby, Carey has revealed she's had a fairy godmother looking out for her at all times… her co-star Meryl Streep.

"Doing press and doing it with a tiny baby, timing has been very important and babies do what they want, which is a challenge," she said at Elle's Women in Hollywood event.

"But it's really helpful when you have Meryl Streep backstage at events shouting at people on your behalf—telling them to hurry the hell up because you have a nursing mother here."

Meryl, 66, who has four grown-up children: Henry, Mamie, Grace and Louisa, seems to be quite protective of the young new mum and her baby.

Giving Carey, 30, an Elle award (and a lovely big smooch) she praised the actress's talent. "I can't wait to see what Carey Mulligan will give us next, what new woman she'll give birth to," she said. "I mean, in addition to the very beautiful and sweet smelling Evy Grace."
