Katniss or Elsa for a girl? New trend in film-inspired baby names
New parents set to name babies after their favourite characters in The Hunger Games, Frozen and Game of Thrones
Parents-to-be are looking to their favourite films and TV for baby-name inspiration. And Katniss (The Hunger Games), Khaleesi (Game Of Thrones) and Frozen's Elsa are all popular choices, according to a new report from baby naming site Nameberry.
The website gathered search data from users looking up potential names for their children in 2014 – and found film and TV inspired monikers are a growing trend.
Katniss – the name of the main character, played by Jennifer Lawrence in the blockbuster Hunger Games movies – was one of the most viewed names.
Also figuring well up the list were Khaleesi, from popular fantasy TV series Game of Thrones, Elsa, after the Let it Go singing Frozen character, and Hazel, the name of Shailene Woodley's character in the popular teen-romance weepie The Fault in Our Stars.
Whether we all end up actually choosing to name our children after the mother of dragons or an arrow-slinging rebel from District 12, remains to be seen.
Would you pick a name like one of these for your child? Or do you like more traditional name? Comments please!
