Wimbledon champ Novak Djokovic dedicates his win to his fiancee and baby-to-be
Tennis star Novak Djokovic talks of his joy at becoming a dad – and takes some parenting tips from his Wimbledon-final rival Roger Federer
Tennis ace Novak Djokovic has dedicated his thrilling 5-set Wimbledon 2014 win over Roger Federer to his fiancée Jelena Ristic and their baby-to-be.
"I would like to dedicate this to my future wife, and our future baby," said Novak in an emotional speech on Centre Court after taking his second Wimbledon title 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-4.
As the crowd cheered, he added: "I'm going to become a father soon. I'm still preparing for that. It's a great joy in life."
Novak and Jelena announced their engagement earlier this year, and rumours are rife that they plan to marry very soon – perhaps even before the baby's due.
Earlier this week, Roger Federer revealed that he's been giving the new Wimbledon champion some parenting tips.
Roger, 32, is dad to 2 sets of twins: Myla and Charlene, 4, and Lenny and Leo, born 2 months ago in May.
"Novak just asked me how life was on the road, how it is to be a dad," Roger told reporters in the lead-up to the Wimbledon final. "I think it’s what like every soon-to-be dad goes through.
"You want to get some information, something you can wrap your mind around. I think he’s super excited. He’s very happy. I’m very happy for them.
Novak himself has said mum-to-be Jelena, who's due in October, is doing just fine. "The date is coming closer," he's said. "The stomach is growing. If you have kids, you know how that feels. For us, it’s a new chapter of our lives. It’s a new experience. We’re full of joy. We’re together almost nine years, and this is the crown of our relationship."
