Some things just get better with age – fine wine, stinky cheese, leather handbags – and, according to Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, fatherhood too.

The vintage Hollywood funnymen shared their baby news this week, with Steve Martin becoming a father for the first time at the grand old age of 67, and Alec looking forward to welcoming a new baby at a relatively sprightly 54 years young.

Cheaper By The Dozen star Martin welcomed a baby with 41-year-old wife Anne Stringfield back in December, but had kept their bundle of joy a secret until now.

A source told the New York Post, “They've had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows. Steve's very private. They are thrilled. They worked hard to have the baby.”

Meanwhile, 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin and wife Hilaria have confirmed reports that they are expecting their first child together.

“It was a surprise, a wonderful surprise,” she told Extra. “Now I’m showing and it’s getting to be much more, like, ‘Oh, my God, this is actually going to happen’.”

These A-list actors are leading the way in Hollywood’s older dad trend, but that’s not to say we don’t have our own share of trailblazing celebs on these shores too.

Canadian soft-rocker turned London based photographer Bryan Adams recently became a father for the second time, welcoming baby Lula Rosylea this week.

Relatively speaking Adams makes a young old dad at 53, an age which, by our calculations, means he was a mere 10 years old in the summer of '69 - what a sham!

Lapdancing impressario and noted lothario Peter Stringfellow has hopped aboard the baby bandwagon too.

72 year-old Peter and his adoring 30-year-old wife Bella recently announced they are expecting a baby, with Peter gushing, “We are obviously overjoyed.”

We would be overjoyed too – Stringfellow’s free bus pas will come in very handy for hauling a buggy between appointments at his various London 'gentlemans' clubs!
