Alicia Keys says she won’t let sons watch ‘sexist, misogynistic’ Snow White
The Disney classic is not a popular movie pick in the Keys household...
Singer Alicia Keys recently revealed that she feels Snow White is ‘sexist’ and that she wouldn’t let her sons watch it.
In a new interview with Net-a-Porter’s The Edit, the 35-year-old star opened up about why the 1937 Disney classic is a no-go for 6-year-old Egypt and 1-year-old Genesis…
“I feel like it’s by design that I’m raising boys; like there’s a reason. I really feel that,” Alicia began.
“They say that every child learns from their mother - it’s ingrained from babyhood. Have you watched Snow White lately? I get real funky about the classics; I don’t like [my sons] watching it.
“It’s totally sexist, misogynistic - she’s cleaning for seven dwarfs.
“There’s nothing wrong with a woman who chooses to stay at home with her family, it’s a hard-ass job, but it’s the way it’s spoken about.”
Well, it is our job to make sure our kids are only watching stuff we think’s 100% appropriate for them, right?
Have your say
Would you let your kids watch Snow White, or do you think films like those are generally fine?
Are there any absolute no-go classic films in your house for similar reasons?
