Having had a ‘lovely’ pregnancy herself, Alicia is keen for other women to have similar experiences. She's also an advocate of many attachment parenting styles, from pre-chewing food for her baby and spitting it into his mouth, to co-sleeping. In fact, a whole chapter in “Kind Mama” is dedicated to “The Family Bed.”

She also explains how she enjoyed eating her son's placenta - although not served up as a steak. "Someone gifted me my placenta in the form of a pill. They encapsulate it.And I have to tell you that I really loved it.

"I got to the point that my husband said, 'Did you have your happy pills today? And I was really sad when they were gone. It really helped me."

Alicia is aware that her views are sometimes viewed as controversial. “It’s cool if others disagree. Everything that's in the book is there to show you why you might want to consider it but never to say you have to choose it, always just to give you information and show you that if you don't choose that, that's totally fine."

The actress was not only lucky enough to enjoy pregnancy, but also sung the praises of her 27-hour labour. "The first 14 hours were almost sexy. The [natural hormone] oxytocin was doing all this magic and it felt amazing.“

Alicia’s son Bear Blue is almost 3. "I'm really loving and enjoying Bear right now," she commented. "I want to finish a few things and then definitely want another baby but not yet."
