Kids reveal what makes their mums and dads cool – what they say may surprise you
Even if your kids are only little right now, we're pretty sure you've wondered what kind of mum you'll be as they grow up – especially when they become teenagers – right?
Will yours be the cool house all the kids want to hang out at? Will you be BFFs with your child? Or perhaps you'll be one of those parents who thinks they're cool, when their teenager doesn't quite see it that way. Gulp. No, that could never be you...
A new survey by Currys PC World asked 1,000 teenagers aged between 13 and 19 to share what they thought made their parents 'cool' and apparently there are no less than 47 things. They are:
- Respects your privacy 47%
- Listens well 46%
- Looks after you when you’re sick 43%
- Lets your friends hang out at your house 40%
- Drives you around 39%
- Is cool about sleepovers 37%
- Doesn’t go through your phone 36%
- Helps with your homework/coursework 36%
- Doesn’t tell you what to wear 36%
- Takes you out for dinner 35%
- Likes your group of friends 35%
- Lets you learn by your mistakes 34%
- Doesn’t smoke 29%
- Always supports you in friendship dramas 29%
- Is interested in your social life 29%
- Picks you up from parties 29%
- Cooks perfect roast potatoes 24%
- Doesn’t kiss you in public 23%
- Has a cool car 23%
- Lets you have a sip of wine or beer from time to time 23%
- Doesn’t hold your hand in public 23%
- Is good at video/computer games 23%
- Tells funny stories to your friends 23%

So, do you make the 'cool' grade? Even uber-trendy parents Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Richard Jones – musicians who are also Currys PC World ambassadors reckon, "We always have some great playlists on that we like to dance to, but even as musicians our kids don’t think we’re cool."
