Children born in August struggle to keep up with fellow classmates who are almost a year older than them, claims the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS).
The pressure of being a 4 year old starting school in September, awaiting a birthday that could be as late as August the following year, means they are behind on reading, the report claim.
Differences in test scores at primary school level as well as the amount of August born babies who go on to study at red brick universities, like Oxford and Cambridge, are apparently 20% lower, according to the study of 48,500 children and teenagers in England.
Barack Obama, born August 4, 1961, might have a fair bit to say about this however. Not only is Barack the first ever black President of the USA, he’s a Columbia University and Harvard Law School graduate. Oh and he also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. Andy Warhol, Whitney Houston and Geri Halliwell also join the line up of August born celebs. We’d also like to see who’s game enough to tell Prime Minister David Cameron that his August-born Florence is set for a less than stellar future.
