With most parents wanting to keep anything remotely connected to gun-related violence and crime a million miles away from their kids, this news-story coming in from the States is just staggering.

A baby name website has revealed that more than 1,500 babies were named Gunner in the last year, putting it in the top 200 boys' names, while the even more dodgy-sounding Arson, Pistol and Danger have also been bestowed on newborns.

Perhaps with a more 'old fashioned' take on the theme, Cannon also made an appearance in the site's top 1000, whilst 900 boys were reportedly named Archer, and an unconfirmed amount of girls Arrow.

Trigger, Shooter, Caliber, Magnum and Pistol also featured, along with the names of gun brands being used as first names, including Barrett, Remington, Kimber, Ruger, Wesson, Browning, Benelli and Beretta.

And it doesn't stop at fire-arms - apparently Mace, Blade, Saw and Dagger are also on the up for boys, whilst some mums and dads have deemed Sabre a nice name for a little girl...

Hunter, which has been popular for the last twenty years state-side, remained in the top 50, but has risen in usage in states where hunting is popular, namely Montana, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Maine

Other choices with distinctly child-unfriendly connotations include Chaos, given to nine little ones, and Rebel, which 47 newborns were blighted with.

Let's hope this is one trend from across the pond that doesn't become a thing over here, right?
