“To have so many [pregnant] at once is somewhat unusual,” said Janice McNichol, head of midwifery. “There’s a real buzz of excitement for those that have their babies and those who are expecting. It’s nice for the ladies that come into the unit to actually say that our midwives are pregnant too and can relate to how they’re feeling and how they are going to feel,” she added.

Amanda Johnson, a midwife at the hospital and the first of the Wandbeck staff to give birth, said, “I didn’t actually tell anyone else until I’d had my first scan, but after that it seemed every week someone else was announcing they were pregnant.”

Amanda explained, “I had my birth at the unit and my best friend Nicola who works at the hospital, was my midwife. It made everything that bit more special and I knew I was in the best hands receiving the best care.”

Midwife Jenny Gregory, who said she’d lost count of the number of babies she’d delivered, is expecting her first baby on 7 July at Wandbeck Hospital.

“The atmosphere is fantastic and we all fell so blessed to be going through this experience together,” said Jenny.
