Baby food sales soar as Brits follow Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole diet trend
Hot new diet trend sweeping the US is now being taken up by British women trying toslim down using baby food
Sales of baby food have soared says a survey by web-grocer Ocado. It was revealed that a number of celebrities were following the ‘baby food diet’ craze. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole are all said to have lost weight with the bizarre diet trend.
Dry baby food sales have risen 59% while people buying wet baby food has gone up 20%.
The sales are apparently being driven by women hoping to slim down for summer after reading that their favourite celebrities have lost weight this way.
Nutritionists are urging people to diet by healthy eating and exercise, instead of using baby food, although they don’t think the pureed foods will do any harm.
“This diet works on portion control and guess what? Yes, restricted calories, as a jar of baby food has very few. Although fruit and veg are included they are pureed so have much less fibre and texture. Chewing food is associated with feelings of fullness, so reach for an apple or a carrot rather than a jar,” said a spokesman for the British Dietetic Association.
