Currently on sale in the USA for £13.50, the idea behind the dolls is that owners can make Barbie look like their fave celebrities. Think Amy Winehouse, Jordan, Cheryl Cole, Beyonce and Christina Aguilera.

Mattel, the makers of Barbie, have been accused by parents of dumbing down. Mattel tried to sell a tattooed Barbie in 1999, but have to pull the doll of sale because of parental anger. A pregnant Barbie also caused outrage.

One parent is quoted as saying: “What will they bring out next? Drug addict Barbie? Alcoholic Barbie?” The parent also said Barbie should be “at the high end of fashion not the chav end.”
