Beyonce sheds light on the name Blue Ivy
Singer posts extract from novel that highlights the beauty of the colour blue
Ever since Beyonce gave birth to Blue Ivy earlier this year, there’s been speculation about the meaning behind her name. Now, a post on Beyonce’s official Tumblr site may give a hint to the inspiration behind the name.
Beyonce posted an extract from Rebecca Solnit’s novel A Field Guide to Getting Lost on her official Tumblr, which muses on the significance of the colour blue in nature.

The last line reads: “The light that gets lots, gives us the beauty of the world, so much of which is in the colour blue.”
It seems as if the singer may be linking how beautiful the colour blue is in the world to the beauty of her first-born child.
MFM had a go at trying to figure out the meaning of the name Blue Ivy back in January, and the extract seems to confirm our conclusions that Beyonce and Jay-Z put a lot of thought into choosing the name.
With the name Blue having such significance, we wonder what other baby names they’ve got in mind for any future children?
