Now, the longest-running children's programme, which began in 1958 and launched the careers of Peter Purves, John Noakes, Anthea Turner, Matt Baker and Konnie Huq, will break with tradition and ask viewers to chose the next presenter.

A series of episodes of Blue Peter - You Decide! will see a group of 10 contenders being put through a series of challenges to see if they're fit to be a presenter on the show.

Three judges, Myleene Klass, Eamonn Holmes and CBBC presenter Ceallach Spellman, will eliminate one person each week until three go into the final. The winner will then be chosen by CBBC viewers.

Myleene Klass, who has two daughters, Ava and Hero, aged five and two, said it was a "huge privilege" to be a judge on the show.
