Fans of hit TV show Downton Abbey have plenty to be excited about. Tantalising previews of the new series have been airing and joyous news has just broken of a Downton baby.

Could it be an early Christmas miracle? Have Matthew and Lady Mary Crawley defied medical naysayers? Well, no. Actually, Dan Stevens, the handsome hearthrob who plays Downton heir Matthew Crawley has had a new baby boy.

Dan and his jazz-singer wife Suzie Hariet, already parents to two-year-old daughter Willow, announced the birth but have not yet revealed the name of their son. 29-year-old Dan told Hello! "Baby two has now arrived β€” it’s a boy β€” and we are, of course, delighted"

The family are making plans to move to New York temporarily while Dan stars in Broadway show The Heir.

Downton fans don't have long to wait until the start of the new series, which will be shown on ITV this autumn.

Apparently the cast have recently wrapped filming of the Christmas special by celebrating with a boat party on the Thames, rumoured to have gone on into the early hours.

Those Downton peeps sure know how to throw a good party!
