Rapper Cardi B cancels tour, admits she 'underestimated the whole mum thing'

US rapper Cardi B has pulled out of going on tour with popstar Bruno Mars in a few weeks' time – after confessing she’d ‘underestimated’ how tough being a new mum is.
The 25-year-old gave birth to a baby girl named Kulture on 11 July 2018, and perhaps, not surprisingly, she realised that she won’t have physically recovered enough from the birth to return to work, 6 weeks on.
Cardi opened up about her decision in an Instagram post:
“As of today, I’ve decided I won’t be joining Bruno on tour this fall. I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that 6 weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically.
"I also thought that I’d be able to bring her with me on tour, but I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing.
"Not only am I just not ready physically, I’m not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it’s not healthy for her to be on the road.
"I hope you guys understand that this decision has been the hardest to make but I have to do what’s best for myself and my baby.
"Thank you Bruno for being so supportive and understanding.”
Fortunately, Bruno was a gem about the last-minute cancellation, writing on his own Instagram: “Most important thing is you and your family’s health… We love you Cardi… please give your baby girl a hug from me!”
?
We have to say: we're glad Cardi's in a position to make this choice, and that she's got the support of those around her.
Of course, it makes total sense, because who recovers enough from pregnancy and labour (in every sense) in 6 weeks, to then take on a physically gruelling live tour?
And it’s perfectly normal and totally OK not to feel 100% raring-to-go or ready to leave your little one 6 weeks after having a baby. You may not feel ready in 6 months, let alone a few weeks.
That said, we can also understand why Cardi herself initially thought she'd be fine to go on tour so soon into her parenting journey.
It's easy to underestimate the whirlwind of motherhood, because no one can ever truly show you just how time-consuming, how life-altering, how much of an emotional rollercoaster being a new mum is.
We reckon you've got to be in it and figure it out for yourself, before you really know ?️?️?️
