The website set up by numbers whiz and former Countdown star Carol Vorderman - The Maths Factor - is now available free of charge. The normal subscription fee of £9.99 per month has been suspended while the schools are off.

The online lessons, for children aged 4 to 12, feature videos, games and rewards to help children get to grips with numbers and mathematics, at their own pace.

Maths factor message

Carol gained a place to study engineering at Cambridge University at the age of just 17 - at the time, one of the youngest women to be admitted.

She set up The Maths Factor with the aim of demystifying maths for children.

“I want children to be the very best they can be with numbers and mathematics, and developing a love of the subject is part of everything we do,” she explained.

According to a YouGov poll, 96% of parents believe it’s crucial for their children to have good number skills for future job prospects.
