Mum's warning as her 6-year-old nearly drowns in pool filter accident
Darcey Morgan's story is a stark reminder of why it's worth tying your little one's locks back - or better still putting a cap on - before a swim
Hitting the pool is probably one of the first things your kids will want to do if you get the chance to do a holiday abroad - quite right too, as it can be loads of fun, splashing in the water under the sunshine ?
We can only imagine how much 6-year-old Darcey Morgan wanted to get in the pool at the hotel her parents had booked in Lanzarote.
Unfortunately, though, fun turned to disaster as Darcey's hair got caught in a filter that was operating an artificial waterfall while she was swimming ?
Darcey's mum Alex shared what happened next in an emotional post on Facebook, saying:
"Darcey was swimming under water when her hair got sucked into the filter that operates a waterfall in the swimming pool.
"Her hair was stuck and she was unable to get up to the surface. She was kept under the water for over two minutes.
"Some incredibly brave people saved our little girl's life that day. Her hair was pulled and pulled before it was ripped.
"Darcey was unconscious and had to be given CPR at the poolside. She was taken by ambulance to Arecife Hospital where she underwent x-rays, tests and was under close observation.
"Her oxygen levels were low and she has lots of fluid on her right lung. Luckily we got to bring Darcey out of hospital the following morning.
"However, it could have been a completely different ending to our holiday.
"This was the worst day of our lives. We are still suffering to come to terms with it all now but also feel incredibly lucky to still have our beautiful, brave little girl."
Gosh, what a very tough and very scary thing to have to go through ?
We're so glad Darcey's OK - and we would suggest putting a swimming cap on your little one before hitting the pool. If they won't go for that, we'd make sure long hair is tied back before a swim to lessen the chances of something like this happening.
