Chris Evans rushed by helicopter to baby’s birth
The star almost missed wife's labour while at the Hay Festival
Chris Evans has welcomed a baby boy to the world after a dramatic dash to be at the scene of the birth.
Eli Alfred Michael Evans arrived at 4.52am after a speedy labour for Evans’ wife Natasha Shishmanian, who was already five days overdue.
Evans described his wife’s labour as a two-push delivery and claimed that active labour of their second son only lasted 52 minutes.
Luckily, the Radio 2 DJ and One Show presenter made it to the birth after a dramatic emergency dash from the Hay Festival, flying from Wales to London by helicopter.
This morning the star called into his Radio Two show, where One Show presenter Alex Jones had stepped in, to talk about his near miss.
“Once upon a time there was a silly radio DJ who went to Wales when his wife was four days overdue with their second child, thinking both mummy and baby might hang on until he returned - but of course he was completely wrong.
“About two hours after he arrived he had to beat a hasty retreat to witness the birth.”
Eli weighed 7lb 13oz and is the second son for the couple, after the birth of Noah in February 2009.
