Colin Farrell speaks out over trials and triumphs of parenting a child with special needs
Actor celebrates achievements of son with Angelman Syndrome
Irish actor Colin Farell is perhaps better known for partying than discussing child development but, in a frank interview in InStyle magazine, he opens up about his eldest son, James, age 9, who suffers from Angelman Syndrome. Angelmans is a neuro-genetic disorder that causes development disability, seizures, jerky movements and sleep disturbances.
Colin says he and ex-wife Kim Bordenave share the smallest victories of their son James, such as first words at age six or seven and getting the seizures under control.
"When James took his first steps at age four, I nearly broke in half!", Colin admits.
"[James] has enriched my life, but I don't want to minimise the trials that so many families go through; the fear, consternation, frustration, and pain," he said
The actor, who also has a son Henry, 3, with ex-girlfriend Alicja Bachleda-Curus, works with the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome (FAST) to raise awareness of the disorder.
