Cristiano's journey to fatherhood

Lots of mystery still surrounds the birth of Ronaldo's first 3 children - and we won't pretend to have all the answers here.

After all, Ronaldo is famously extremely private about his personal life, and has purposefully chosen not to identify their mother(s).

We do know little bits, though, especially since the Real Madrid and Portugal footballer has begun posting more about his life as a dad on social media...

Cristiano Jr's birth

On 4 July 2010, 25-year-old football star Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Facebook and Twitter that he had become a father to a baby boy.

The baby was born in the US, to a surrogate mother who reportedly made Ronaldo the child's sole guardian.

Ronaldo's statement - which The Telegraph was so surprised by, it thought it was a hack - read:

"It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy.”

“As agreed with the baby’s mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship.

"I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these."

Mateo & Eva Maria's birth

On 8 June 2017, Cristiano welcomed twins Eva Maria and Mateo.

They were born in the US, reports say, via a Californian surrogate. Docs found by the Daily Mail seem to suggest the babies were conceived via frozen embryos in a surrogacy clinic.

It's thought that Cristiano missed the twins' birth, due to a football tournament in Chile.

Georgina Rodriguez's pregnancy

Spanish model Georgina was born on 27 January 1995, making her just 22 years old when she began a relationship with Real Madrid's Ronaldo, then 32.

They first started to date at the very end of 2016, allegedly meeting at a VIP Dolce & Gabbana event. In February 2017, the couple were photographed enjoying a visit to Disneyland Paris.

When twins Eva and Mateo were born, rumours began to swirl that Georgina was with child, too.

In mid July 2017, Ronaldo confirmed that Georgina was expecting their 1st child together, his 4th overall. Reporters asked if he was happy about the pregnancy news, to which he replied: "Yes, very much."

In the run up to the birth, Georgina was sometimes pictured looking after or hanging out with all 3 of Ronaldo's children.

Alana Martina's birth

On 12 November 2017, Alana Martina was born!

Ronaldo shared the happy news with a smiley post-labour pic of himself, Georgina, the newborn and then 7-year-old Cristiano Jr.

He wrote beside the gorgeous snap: "Alana Martina is just born! Both Geo and Alana are doing great! We are all very happy!"

The couple also revealed that the newborn's lovely name was in fact a joint decision, with Ronaldo choosing the first name.

“We both chose the name. Cristiano chose Alana and I chose Martina,” Georgina told Spanish mag Hola! “We decided to give her both names that each of us chose. We thought it was even more special.”

She also revealed how her boyfriend treated her post-baby. “I’m very proud of him,” she continued. “When we got home from hospital, he’d organised a surprise dinner, with all our nearest and dearest.

"I felt like the luckiest woman in the world.”

What are Ronaldo's children's surnames?

In Portuguese culture, people typically have 1 or 2 1st names followed by a couple of family names.

So, in Cristiano's case, 'Cristiano' is his 1st name, 'Ronaldo' his middle name. His surname is 'dos Santos Aveiro'.

Assuming they have all taken his surname, which seems likely, the children's correct surnames would be 'dos Santos Aveiro'.

However, rumour also suggests that the children have simply taken on the maternal surname 'dos Santos', after Eva Maria's birth certificate was said to read: 'Eva Maria Dos Santos'.

Mind, you'll typically see the children's surnames are widely stylised as 'Ronaldo' in the press, just like their dad's!

Family of 6...

Who knows if the Ronaldo brood will continue to, well, brood? We suspect it might, but that's just a hunch... especially since Cristiano has been reported as saying he wants 7 children.

(7 is also the number on his footballer jersey!)

That said, it seems to us that Ronaldo and Georgina will be pretty busy come 2018, given that they have 3 new babies between them.

Luckily, they've got a little help from Ronaldo's mum, and his sisters, and of course, little Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, who looks ever the proud big bro in the family's latest pics together...
