Dolly Parton reveals sadness at not being able to have children
Country star discovered she would never be a mum in her 30s
Dolly Parton went though "a dark time" in her 30s after being told she would not be able to have children. The country star, who married husband Carl Dean aged 20, underwent a partial hysterectomy after an illnesse caused her to pass out on stage. Dolly was 36 at the time and the couple had always assumed they would have children.
"Suddenly I was a middle-aged woman. I went through a dark time, until I made myself snap out of it," Dolly explained.
“We never did think of adopting,” she added. “I guess I didn’t have the time. I had my career and all, I had younger brothers and sisters, so I had that responsibility and that joy and that duty.”
Dolly is also Miley Cyrus' godmother and one cool babysitter. “You wouldn’t believe my place!” she said. “I got tree houses. I got caves. I love to babysit ’cause it gives me a chance to play.”
