As Mothercare prepares to close all of its 79 stores and shut down its website, the store has announced an ‘Everything must go’ closing down sale starting on Friday 8 November. Mothercare tells us nearly all products will be “dramatically reduced” and expects a surge of people through its doors. Most of the bargains are in store but we’ve found some sale items on the Mothercare website – including £129 off the Mothercare genie pushchair.

The closure of the remaining stores and website is a sad end to a familiar high street retailer, 58 years after the first Mothercare store opened. The store has revealed it has a high level of stock in its warehouses and aims to sell this off as part of the administration process it entered into at the beginning of November.

“This is a great opportunity for customers to pick up some amazing deals as everything is reduced,” says a Mothercare spokesperson. “Demand will be high so don’t wait to grab a fantastic deal, especially if you’re Christmas shopping! We’d also like to thank our customers for their historic support of the Mothercare brand.”

Some shops have been exceptionally busy today, which no doubt has been particularly hard for the staff who are facing redundancy but still having to work. One parent described the scene in the Cardiff store as "bedlam". She continued, "And someone has just stolen/walked out with a display pushchair. I feel sorry for the staff."

What to do if you have Mothercare gift cards of vouchers?

Mothercare gift cards and vouchers are still currently valid, but the store is urging you to spend them as quickly as possible, as all the stores and the website will be closing.
