Football pundit John Barnes chooses football over the birth of his son
Former footballer decided to carry on watching the Liverpool and Chelsea match instead of being with his wife as she went into labour
For some, witnessing the birth of their baby is a sight of a lifetime, but for others, not so much – John Barnes we’re talking about you!
The former Liverpool and England football star John Barnes willingly missed the birth of his seventh child after deciding to carry on watching a big match between his old team and Chelsea, leaving his wife Andrea to tackle the labour without him.
The 37-year-old football pundit was booked in to talk about the match for SkySports on Sunday, but during the first half John found out that his wife had gone into labour with his seventh child and Andrea’s third. Football took priority and John stayed put until the second half, after which he finally went to meet his new son, Alexander.
When the game finished, John’s co-star Richard Keyes announced that John had left to be with his wife and newborn baby and reprimanded him by saying, “Quite rightly. He should have gone earlier.”
Baby Alexander joins John’s other children Isabella, 5, Tia, 3, with wife Andrea, plus Jamie, 24, Jordan, 21, Jemma, 17, and Jasmin, 13, from his previous marriage to ex-wife Suzy.
Maybe John Barnes should have taken note from Charlton player Simon Francis. Simon found out his girlfriend was in labour while on his tour bus, but jumped off and headed to the hospital.
John or Simon – who is your partner more likely to follow the lead of?
