Sandwiches will never be the same again at Sainsbury's. The supermarket has renamed tiger bread, following the keen observation of a toddler.

In May last year, eagle-eyed tot Lily Robinson sent a letter to Sainsbury's suggesting the crusty loaf looked more like a giraffe than a tiger.

Customer services team member Chris King wrote back two weeks later agreeing with the Lily. "Renaming tiger bread giraffe bread is a brilliant idea - it looks much more like the blotches on a giraffe than the stripes on a tiger, doesn't it?" he wrote.

Lily's mum posted the letters on her blog and the cute exchange was soon trending on Twitter. Chris even scored his own Facebook fanpage and is now training to be a primary school teacher!

Last week, the topic was revived on Twitter and Facebook and Sainsbury's was flooded with calls from customers in support of the new name.

A spokesman for the store said: "In response to overwhelming customer feedback that our tiger bread has more resemblance to a giraffe, from today we will be changing our tiger bread to giraffe bread and seeing how that goes."
