Grey’s Anatomy star takes 4 weeks maternity leave
Ellen Pompeo, aka Meredith Grey, explains why she was back on the set of the US drama just four weeks after giving birth
Celebrity mum Ellen Pompeo, or Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy, was back at work just four weeks after she gave birth to her daughter, reports People magazine.
Actress Ellen, 40, explained her return to work in an interview with the US magazine Self: “A lot of people couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t take my maternity leave.
“I felt like I needed to work while I had this opportunity. The writers and producers were really gracious and wrote my scenes so I could preshoot them.”
Ellen, who’s daughter Stella Luna is now 6 months old, also spoke about her new-mum nerves: “I got pregnant and I was like, ‘Oh God, it worked! Oh, no!’ Will I know how to do everything right? Of course, nobody does everything right, but as long as your baby is the priority, that’s the best you can do.”
While baby Stella is the priority, Ellen, who is married to Chris Ivery, also seems to recognise the importance of adult time. “It’s easy to get lost in the baby. You have to make sure you give your husband attention,” she said. As for friends, “You learn things from your friends, and they bring you joy, and you bring back all that happiness to your baby,” Ellen explained.
