Pregnant Jessica Simpson’s nude magazine cover has been hidden behind a piece of cardboard on the shelf of a Safeway store in Arizona, ABC news reports.

Jess posed for the shoot with Elle magazine, covering her naked breasts with her arms in the pose popularized by Demi Moore in Vanity Fair. But after reportedly receiving complaints from customers, a Safeway employee hid the cover with a sign that said, “Please do not remove cardboard.”

“The sign was up for a short time, and removed. This was by no means a company-wide directive,” said Teena Massingill, a Safeway HQ spokesperson.

However, with so many magazines using scantily clad women on the cover and in advertisements, some experts are unhappy with the reaction to the complaint. Susan Burger, president of the New York Lactation Consultant Association, told ABC news, “If they do have the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition on their stands, I would consider this a double standard. I think some people are more afraid of pregnancy and breastfeeding because it has been even more in the closet than sex.”

Jess herself has remained refreshingly open throughout her pregnancy. Most recently the humorous star told TV host Jimmy Kimmel she images when her waters will break it will be like a fire hydrant. We’re not sure a piece of cardboard would be able to cover that up.
