Kate Silverton announces pregnancy with 'thumbs up' baby scan pic
BBC newsreader is pregnant with her second child, despite being told she'd probably never have children
BBC newsreader Kate Silverton has announced her second pregnancy – and shared the cutest picture of her unborn baby giving her a thumbs-up.
Kate, who's 43 and already has a two-year-old daughter called Clemency, tweeted, "Very happy morning all - a little bit of 'news': Mike & I very happy to share that Clemency is set to become a big sister this summer."
She then followed up with another tweet, sharing her babyscan photo, saying: "Wouldn't usually tweet a scan photo but this was too sweet: baby gave us the OK him/herself."
Her Twitter feed was immediately flooded with congratulations retweets, many of them from her fellow TV stars, including Gabby Logan and Katy Hill – and Kate soon tweeted again, saying "Having trouble keeping up with your lovely tweets - thank you all so much. We are indeed absolutely thrilled and feeling very very blessed."
Kate had already revealed, during her first pregnancy, that she'd been told she was very unlikely to have children – after having had an ovary removed when she was 29.
She told Hello! magazine at the time: "This baby is the closest it gets to a miracle for me. Mike and I resigned ourselves to being childless. We felt desperately sad about it but, as a positive person, my philosophy was that everyone faces challenges in life, and very often much worse than ours.'
"When it happened naturally, I was stunned. It defied medical opinion and my wildest hopes. When the control line turned blue, I thought it was fate mocking me.
"But then the second line turned blue, too. I stared at it in disbelief. That was the start of this new life. I still carry the test around in my handbag with me."
Congratulations, Kate, on your second 'miracle' pregnancy!
