Katherine Jenkins chooses American name for her baby
Did Katherine's US husband win the baby name discussions? Still Katherine slips some Welsh into their announcement
Singer Katherine Jenkins has posted a gorgeous trio of pics giving a first glimpse of her newborn baby and revealing her (not-very-Welsh) name.
“Introducing our daughter Aaliyah Reign Levitas,” she shared on Instagram.
The 35 year old revealed baby Aaliyah weighed a healthy 7lbs at birth and "came loudly into the world".
“We are absolutely besotted with her & grateful for the beautiful blessing of this happy, healthy, little miracle. Cwtches all round.” Cwtches is Welsh for big hugs rather than a new mum sleep deprived induced typo!
Aaliyah means 'highborn' and 'ascending' and is a very popular American baby name - ranked at No 45 in 2014 in the US. We wonder whether Katherine may have been influenced by another singer, Aaliyah Haughton, who tragically died in 2001 aged just 22, when her plane crashed in the Bahamas where she'd been filming a music video.
Aaliyah's second name, Reign, follows the celeb name trend of choosing regal names - both Kourtney Kardashian and L'il Kim have children called Reign.
Katherine and her American artist husband Andrew Levitas tied the knot in September 2014 and the singer announced they were having a little girl six months later by posting a cute pic of tiny pink baby ballet shoes on top of a framed pic of their wedding day on Instagram.
Congratulations both!
