Katy Perry has never been one to take herself too seriously, which is why Sesame Street asked her to make a cameo appearance with Elmo. However, it seemed that parents failed to see the funny side and got the segment banned!

Clad in a figure-hugging neon yellow dress and donning a wedding veil, Katy Perry, 25, was seen chasing poor Elmo through Sesame Street begging him to play. However, when a sneak preview of her appearance was put up on YouTube the curvaceous singer caused a flood of complaints from concerned parents in the US, who deemed her getup as being too racy for children’s TV.

Russel Brand’s fiancee sang a parody of her song, Hot N Cold, to Elmo whilst bopping around the famous street – however the innocent sing-a-long will now only be seen on YouTube and will not be screened on TV as planned.

“Sesame Street has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult,” a statement from Sesame Street has said. “We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent.” However, they decided to axe the clip for the sake of the complaining parents. “In light of the feedback, we have decided we will not air the segments on TV.”

Meanwhile Katy Perry commented on the cut, saying, “Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!”
