Singer Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she told fans about her pregnancy earlier than she intended because her morning sickness was so bad she had to cancel shows.

“We were trying to wait until the end of my first trimester, because you're supposed to I guess, because you're less likely to have a miscarriage,” she said on the TODAY show. “But everybody kept talking about it and I had to cancel something because I’ve been so ill.

“I didn’t want people to think I was cancelling because I’m lazy or something, so we just told people.”

The American Idol winner’s looking forward to her pregnancy progressing – so that she can leave morning sickness behind. “I don’t know why they call it morning sickness – that’s my big joke right now. It’s all day and all night!

“But I am super-excited about being pregnant. I’m just looking forward to the second trimester...They say it’s better.”

Kelly, 31, married her husband Brandon Blackstock in October, and they've predicted their baby will be a girl.

“It's way too early to know,” she confessed, but she has a hunch. “Scientifically, they say – this is going to be too much information – but they say if it’s later after you ovulate, girl sperm lasts longer than boy sperm. At least that’s what my doctor told me, and I guess mine was late.

“It’s a gut feeling, too. Because she’s killing me, and of course it’s a girl causing the trouble!”

And the couple already have a name for their baby – but they’re keeping it a secret. “We’re not saying because I don’t want anybody stealing my baby name. We named our kid before we were even pregnant!”
