Kelly Clarkson has revealed that her 10-month-old daughter River Rose has never slept in Kelly's bed and has always slept in her own cot. The US singer believes that having never co-slept has made her baby more independent.

Safe sleep guidelines advise that the safest place for your baby to sleep is in a separate cot or Moses basket in the same room as you for the first 6 months. However, Kelly's decision appears to be more about making her child have an independent streak.

"She's been in her own bed; she's never slept with us ever," she told Radio Disney. "I'm just very adamant about that, even to create her independence and her own identity and to be safe in her own room.

""I don’t want to create a kid that’s stuck to my leg. River is not a cuddler. I legitimately had 'Miss Independent,'" she quipped of her 2003 hit song.

For the 32-year-old and her husband Brandon Blackstock, the strict no co-sleeping rule has ensured their continued privacy despite becoming parents for the first time last June.

"A friend of mine was like, 'Our kid sleeps with us every night; it’s this whole new way of life,' which is great for her, but in my world, we're sleeping. I don't want my kid rolling over and hitting me in the face. That's not good sleep."

"She is the happiest baby on the planet, but when it's nap time, bedtime, she's like, 'Put me down. I want to lay flat. I want to roll on my own.'" By the way, we assume River isn't actually saying this - that would be pretty forward for a 10-month-old - but is just showing this through her body language.
