After giving birth to a baby girl on her 32nd birthday last month, Kimberly Stewart didn't bargain for her dad, Rod Stewart, unexpectedly revealing she had named her daughter Delilah. But in fact there's more to it - her daughter's name is registered on the one-month-old's birth certificate as Delilah Genoveva Stewart del Toro.

Although Kimberly is not in a relationship with Delilah's dad, Benecio del Toro, the couple have given their daughter both their surnames. However the couple have merged their surnames instead of giving her two surnames in the 'double-barralled' way the British sometimes do.

The Puerto Rican actor and film producer seems to have followed the tradition upheld by most Spanish-speaking countries, where a baby's name is followed by two family names. However the Spanish naming rule is that the first of these family names is the dad's surname, and the second being the mum's maiden name, with no hyphen. But the Hollywood couple have changed their surnames around!

Kimberly and Benecio apparently gave their daughter both their surnames so that everyone would know her background and wealth, according to the Daily Mail.

We quite like Stewart del Toro, it has a nice ring about it! Have you double-barrelled or merged your baby's surnames?
