Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter reveals her twins' retro baby names
It sounds like Lucy and partner Rudi were inspired by a Country & Western theme...
Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter gave birth to twin girls in April ?
And now the 40-year-old star, who plays Chas Dingle in the ITV soap, has revealed the girls’ vintage names. She's announced, in an interview in OK magazine, that they're called Missy Mabel and Betsy Maggie!
Baby name sites describe Missy as a name with Greek origins, often used as a shortened form of Melissa.
It’s probably best known as the moniker for rapper Missy Elliott, but SheKnows also claims its meaning is ‘bee’, after mythological Princess Melissa of Crete, who transformed into a bee after learning to collect honey.
???
Betsy, however, is classically a diminutive of Elizabeth, according to US baby name site Nameberry.
It means ‘pledged to God’, and a Betsey comeback is said to be on the baby name horizon, after previous waves of popularity in the 1940s and 1960s.
We’ve got to say, for us, Missy and Betsy together brought to mind a Country & Western movie… but we’re not entirely sure why.
Either way, we love that these names feel a little bit different to everything else out there at the mo.
Lucy and partner Rudi Coleano’s 1st baby name choice was a real classic - they named their daughter, now 11, Lola.
The Spanish-inspired moniker has skyrocketed in popularity over recent years – thanks to a slew of fellow celebs picking it for their little ones ?
