Man saves unconscious pregnant woman from icy river
Silver medal of bravery and dedication award to hero in France
A man has been awarded a bravery medal after he dived into an icy river to rescue a pregnant woman trapped inside a car in France, reports the BBC.
The 8-month pregnant woman and her husband were submerged in the river after a collision with another car flipped theirs and sent it into the water. The husband was seen with water up to his neck and is said to have cried “Please save my wife!”
Frenchman Eddy Devauchelle, 42, got out of his own car and went into the freezing water to help the unconscious mum-to-be from the car and pull her to the riverbank. The police and fire crews arrived shortly after, and the husband and wife were taken to hospital.
“A firefighter came to see me and said, ‘The baby and his mother are safe!’” Eddy told local paper Le Courrier Picard, reports the BBC.
