Mum defends 3-year-old son for wearing princess outfit to school
'Zackary is my 3-year-old son and he can be who he wants to be. Today he was a Disney princess and YES I did send him to school like that'
Judging by the ear-to-ear grin on little Zackary's face in this photo, we're guessing he, at least, has NO problem whatsoever with donning an Elsa outfit when the mood takes him.
Not everyone feels the same way, however, as his mum Haylee Bazen revealed in a Facebook post after a stranger at a bus stop thought it was OK to point out that she didn't like the fact Zackary was dressed as a princess. Hmmmm.
Here's Haylee's post in full:
She wrote:
"To the lady at the bus stop who felt the need to interrupt my conversation with my son. I am NOT sorry you didn't like how he was dressed nor am I sorry that you didn't like our discussion topic of who our favorite Disney Princess is (Snow White obviously).
"Zackary is my 3-year-old son and he can be who he wants to be. Today he was a Disney princess and YES I did send him to school like that. Why???
"Because that's what he wanted to wear, because he wanted to show his teachers and friends his Elsa dress, because he wanted to sing 'let it go' for show and tell, because he doesn't understand the gender stereotypes YOU think he should conform to, but most importantly because he is awesome!!
"He plays with cars and dolls, princesses and pirates. He rides his scooter or pushes his pram. He wears zombie face painting or lip stick and if he chooses to wear a dress he can!!
"So next time you see us, dressed as a princess or cowboy, keep your disapproving stares to yourself and unless you want to tell him how great he looks keep your poisonous words to yourself too.
"You're the one that should be embarrassed to leave the house not us!! ??"
Haylee's post has been shared on Facebook more than 26,000 times so far, and she got loads of positive comments.
One said: "It still amazes me how judgemental people can be. Good for you! No one complains when little girls want to wear blue or wear jeans or trainers or dress in superhero costumes do they? Super cute little boy."
Another said: "Great mum. Thank you, showing your son and the world it doesn't matter what you wear! x"
Here here we say, go Haylee ?
And Zackary - we think you look awesome ?
