Myleene Klass, the TV presenter and musician, has been recognised with an MBE in the New Year Honours for her tireless campaigning on miscarriage awareness and improving women’s health.

Reflecting on the achievement, Myleene said she was “utterly shocked and surprised” but proud of the impact her work has had.

When I think back to how all of this started, it came from a very dark place. A miscarriage is not a dark secret that women have to hide away, and I won't stop campaigning until every woman and family has the support they need.
Myleene Klass

Her journey from personal heartbreak to a leading voice for change has helped transform public and governmental attitudes towards miscarriage.

Transforming miscarriage care in the UK

Miscarriage is an experience faced by many – it's believed that sadly 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in loss – yet support for affected families has historically been lacking. Until recently, women had to endure three miscarriages before accessing medical care. Thanks to Myleene’s advocacy, the Women’s Health Strategy now ensures that help is offered after every miscarriage.

Myleene has been instrumental in lobbying for these changes, comparing the old system to withholding treatment after multiple heart attacks:

If you suffered three heart attacks, you wouldn’t only be offered support after the third one. It shouldn’t be the same with baby loss.

Working alongside the baby loss charity Tommy’s, Myleene is also campaigning for centralised miscarriage data collection. This would allow researchers to better understand the scale of the issue and develop interventions to reduce miscarriage rates.

Breaking the silence around baby loss

In her Bafta-nominated documentary, Myleene Klass: Miscarriage and Me, the mother of three opened up about the pain of losing four pregnancies and the emotional toll on her family.

No one wants to talk about dead babies, so women are left to deal with issues of baby loss and fertility alone. That needs to change.

Her candid accounts have resonated with many, helping to break down the stigma surrounding miscarriage. Myleene also highlighted how baby loss affects entire families, sharing how her children grieved the siblings they never got to meet.

Beyond her work on miscarriage awareness, Myleene has authored parenting books and has been an ambassador for Save the Children for over a decade. Her MBE is not just a recognition of her campaigning efforts but also her broader contributions to family life and women’s health.

“I feel proud knowing that I’ve used my platform not to stand idly by but to do something positive.”
