Parents agree suicide pact after son’s death
Tragic story of grief-stricken family who didn’t want dead son to be alone
A mum has told of a suicide pact between herself and her husband after their son was killed in a car crash.
Nine-year-old Connor Hogg was killed in a car accident in central Scotland last year. Weeks after they made the decision to turn his life support machine off, his father, Allan, killed himself so his young son wasn’t alone.
Allan and his wife, Kelly, 31 made a pact that one of them should die to be with Connor, and one should stay with Kelly’s 13-year-old daughter, Lauren.
“Allan took his own life and died happy and content knowing that he was going to see his son again and that he would be there to look after him,” said Kelly.
“I know it might sound strange to some people, but when you are about to lose a child you love more than anything in the world, you want to do everything in your power to protect them. If that means taking your own life, then that is the sacrifice we decided to make.”
Since Connor’s death, Kelly has raised thousands of pounds for Southern General Hospital where her son was treated.
