Parents working in the grocery business could get £150 grants for school uniform
GroceryAid is offering School Essentials Grants to low-income families who work in grocery shops, supermarkets and wholesalers. Here's how to work out if you qualify...
If you have school-aged kids and you or your partner work in the grocery business (including supermarkets, corner shops and wholesalers), you may be able to get a grant of £150 towards buying school uniform and other school items for each of your children.
The charity GroceryAid has launched a grant programme to help low-income families with the cost of purchasing school essentials. The £150 grant is available for each school-aged child (between the ages of 4 and 18), up to a maximum of 3 children per family.
How can I tell if I qualify for the grant?
To qualify, your household income needs to meet GroceryAid’s criteria for financial hardship – which take into account your family make-up and housing costs. It's a grant, say GroceryAid, that's aimed at parents who are receiving Child Tax Credit.
You can apply for the grant if:
- You are currently employed in the grocery industry and have been for at least 12 months (you will need to show payslips for the past 12 months or a P60 or a letter from your employer)
- You can evidence receipt of Child Benefit, paid into your bank account
- Your household net income meets GroceryAid's criteria for financial hardship (you will need to show 1 full month's bank statements)
- Your household savings are below £1000
- You have not received any other grant from GroceryAid since 1st April 2020
How do I apply?
To apply, you'll need to have all your documents ready and then fill in the online Grocery Aid application form (we should warn you that it can be slow to load at times, depending on how many people are trying to access it).
The grant will close on 30 September 2020 – or earlier if all the funds have been allocated before then.
