Eastenders actress Patsy Palmer, 39, has revealed her heartache after miscarrying an unexpected pregnancy just months after giving birth to her youngest son Bertie.

Bertie arrived in dramatic fashion in December 2010. Mum-of-four Patsy spent a month in hospital under close watch after going into premature labour. But despite the scare, Patsy's little baby arrived healthy, seven weeks premature, and has continued to do well.

It was just months later that Patsy discovered she was pregnant again.

“It was a shock to be pregnant so soon after having our baby Bertie. I felt fearful that I wasn’t physically strong enough,” explained the actress, who plays Albert Square’s Bianca Butcher. “Then, at my nine-week scan in October, they told me I’d lost the baby. We don’t know why. But it shook us all.”

The family is preparing to celebrate Bertie’s first birthday and Patsy has been getting used to being back at work. “He’s brought so much joy to the family. Returning to work was a wrench.”
