A grandma from Essex has hit out at Disney after seeing that it has licensed Poundland to sell Disney Princess false eyelashes marketed in children's packaging.

Nicolette Harvey spotted the lashes on a recent shopping trip, and said this:

“I don't agree with sexualising young girls in this way and Disney will attract them to the products.

"I know for certain that my granddaughter would be more attracted to them with the Disney logo on than any other brand.”

Nicolette has a 4-year-old granddaughter, and she worries that there's also a safety issue with the eyelashes, in that they don't come with glue and she thinks kids might try and use craft glue to stick them on with.

The packaging also has the warning 'Not suitable for under 3s', which is more normally found on products for children rather than those for teens or adults.

Disney has stated that the 3+ symbol simply warns parents that the eyelashes could be a choking hazard for small children, and doesn't imply that the product is aimed at the 3+ market.

"The Disney-branded eyelashes, which are manufactured by H&A under a license with Disney and sold at Poundland, are designed for teens and adults, and can normally be found in stores within the beauty section only."

Hmmmm.

Here at MFM HQ, quite a few of us have said we'd buy them for ourselves as presumably they're only £1, though we are a bit put off by the fact they don't come with any glue.

So at what age do parents think it's appropriate for children to wear false eyelashes? It's definitely a debatable issue.

Certainly Peter Andre told GMTV that he was "disgusted" when he saw pictures of his and Katie Price's daughter, Princess Tiaamii, wearing fake eyelashes at the age of 2.

We'd certainly be worried about how younger customers might try to attach them. And we don't know many teenagers or grown-ups who'd be attracted to buying Disney Princess products....

What do you think?

At what age would you let your kids wear false eyelashes? Do you think Disney's out of order to package these in a way that might appeal to very young children? Tell us in the comments below or over on Facebook
